Every Monday it seems the weights are a little lighter, the fitness center is a bit closer, and it's easier to move myself around. Through a scheduling misunderstanding, I ended up with an hour to myself on an exercise mat, and I practiced depression lifts in long sitting - that's with legs out straight, and pushing down on the mat to lift my butt up. I managed it way easier than the last time I tried, partly because I'm getting a bit stronger, partly because I'm getting a bit more range of motion in my wrist to put it in the right place to push. All this is important because it's the first step to getting into the wheelchair from the ground.

I also did some more wheelie practice today. Just as with everything else they added a new challenge: turn around in a circle while in a wheelie. I did it in one direction, but had some trouble in the other. I'm not quite ready to go without the wheelie bars, that's for sure.

  1. A "scheduling misunderstand"? Are you sure it wasn't "Say, let's give Andrew some time to practice his depression lifts, he hasn't been doing those in a while"?

Pretty soon they're going to be asking you to wheelie blindfolded with one hand while rubbing your tummy with the other and singing "Oh Canada!" in French...

Great job, Andrew, you are an inspiration to all!

  2. I would pay some big money to see you wheelie and rub your tummy at the same time, heck we could go on the road with that show!! lol!!'
You the man tre'v!! Work is jammed, hope to get by soon!!!

  3. Kento, I think your theory sounds very plausible but please don't encourage the singing thing, that could get ugly! My ears hurt just thinking about it.

  4. I Just read your entire blog, and its very inspiring and a testament to the powers above and your obvious willpower. I had found out about the "tip-over" on blog when it happened. I said that if that could happen to you, it could happen to anyone.

I just wanted to wish you a continued recovery and you are very lucky to have the great family and friends around you with a very loving, caring and supportive wife. Its not that easy to find someone like that in this day and age, but you have.

I made sure to buy your book. I know it will have the in-depth knowledge needed. I wish you all the best and will continue to read the blog and

    Keep doing wheelies!!
