Week 7: Done!

3_21_a
I can't believe it's been that long, but it will be seven weeks on Monday that I've been here at the Casa. The last couple of weeks have been really good for my progress, with all the little bits coming together. Making the transition from the mat or bed to the wheelchair is one thing, but getting to that point is another. How do you get the chair in the right position? How do you sit up and get to the edge of the bed? All this is starting to happen now for me. In therapy this morning I went from lying in the middle of the bed to sitting up and moving to the edge ready to get in the chair. It's hard to move around on the mat, there's a lot of weight that has to be moved by hand bit by bit. I'm getting there though.

The picture today is of the baby hummingbirds in their nest, there are two of them. It's fitting that today is the first day of spring and I saw one of the little ones out of the nest and sitting on a nearby branch. Life goes on.

  1. Hi, Andrew -

Well done on the continuing progress.

We have some hummingbirds that like to drink out of the fountain in our back yard. Here's a shot I captured recently while testing a new super-tele lens intended for race photos, but which also works great for wildlife and birding:

    Keep up the great work!

  2. Hey Andrew, if you've got the time after you get out of rehab, look me up, we've got a bunch of downed riders in our SCI Support group at Northridge SCI, meet every Thursday from 3 to 5 pm. Mostly it's a bunch of bench racing, but we do sometimes cover topics only people in our situation can relate to.

Man, from the time of your injury to what you're doing now is amazing, fantastic progress. Keep it up! Remember those pressure releases!

Check out the MX Forum at motorcycle.com, I'm the moderator at MO for the MX stuff, and found out about your injury from a post one of our readers put up.

Hope you get that elbow squared away, and get home quick. Nothing like being home to make you feel better.

    Later,
    Matt Cuddy

  3. You're right Andrew, 'life goes on'. You have just had the pause button hit on yours for a while. Once that button is released though, look out world! The re-emergence of Andrew Trevitt is going to be another journey that we are all going to want to watch.
Just like you are watching those hummingbirds.
