Two Years

wayne_rainey

Today, the 10th, marks two years since my tipover. As usual when these anniversaries roll around, it feels both a lot longer and a lot shorter than that. Some days I feel like everything is new, and other times it seems like I've been in my chair for ever. We celebrated the occasion by going to the dentist.

Recently I re-read the book "Wayne Rainey: His Own Story". I have been a big fan of Wayne Rainey for a long time, and reading his book with a new perspective gave me even more respect for him. If you don't follow motorcycle racing, Rainey is a three-time 500cc world champion whose career ended when he broke his back in 1993. We have almost the same spinal cord injury; I'm T5, he is T6. A lot of people say I'm an inspiration for them, but this is one person I draw a lot of my own inspiration from. The book is available from Amazon in paperback and is a great read.

  1. I'm glad you 'celebrated' today (even if it was with the dentist...yuch). What you have accomplished in the past two short/long years is amazing and is very much a cause for celebration...Superman.

  2. You need to work on your celebration skills, Man. I'm glad you're still writing here. I still follow along in my RSS feed.

  3. ...a great read indeed.

And I, for one, understand your dental celebration - hopefully you're getting close to finished with the restorative work!

  5. Wayne did rehab at Long Beach Memorial, his photo is everywhere over there, those pictures were a source of solace for me.
I got the book later, good read, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
    Shared experiences, solace... :-)
