Four Months In

3_10_a
Today marks the four-month anniversary of my tipover. In some ways it feels like forever since I've slept in my own bed or made coffee in the morning - something I'd desperately like to do - but in other ways the time is just flying by. I can't believe I've been here at the Casa for five weeks already.

Over the last four months I've had lots of time staring at the ceiling to think, and I've also learned a lot about a bunch of different things. The last couple of weeks have been really great, as I can now see the path out of the tunnel, and the end is really close. I know exactly what I need to do to finish up, it's just a matter of hard work and a lot of practice. I've also learned a lot about my friends and family - all good, for sure. Ironically, I've probably seen my mom, brothers and sister more in the last four months than I have in the last four years, and it's been a great experience for me. It really makes me miss them all the more, but soon enough I'll be able to visit them instead of the other way around.

The picture on this post is from one of my favorite trips last summer, I rode Jake Holden's Corona Honda at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah. I've got loads of other fond riding memories, but for whatever reason I'm okay with the fact that I probably won't be able to ride again. That ship has sailed, and in the last couple of months I've realized there are loads of other things that I'm still able to do, and I'm looking forward to trying new things that I probably never would have thought of.

  2. Happy "Re-birthday" Andrew!! Your progress, determination, sheer-will-to succeed and courage has astounded all of us who know you (and I am sure, even some of these blog readers who don't know you personally).
You amaze me each and every time I see you. I am certain that you are destined for even greater things in your 'Second Act' and speaking from my own heart, I am thrilled to be able to witness them, whatever they are.
    Big love!!

  3. Andrew,

Thanks for that very moving post - beautiful indeed - and perhaps in a way the most important yet.

    Well done.

  6. I consider it a priviledge that you continue to speak about your experience and to share your feelings with everyone who reads the blog. I can't honestly say that I would be able to handle the same situation with the grace you have shown throughout. I can honestly say that your attitude and determination are inspirational to me on a regular basis. Thanks Andrew!

  9. "but for whatever reason I'm okay with the fact that I probably won't be able to ride again."

The thing I found when my riding/racing career was abruptly truncated was I did not miss riding a motorcycle nearly as much as I thought I would? Although my ego did have difficulty with it's new status, as an 'X' racer, substantially lower... :-(

Andrew we share a rich and full riding history, a history we will always look back on with pride and pleasure. I mean how many people have enjoyed motorcycles as much and as widely as we have, HUH? ;-)

Tomorrow is a new day with new goals and things to look forward to, our adrenal glands needed respite anyway... :-)

  10. With all due respect Trevitt, you were never really that good on a bike anyways.

The fact that I always seem to have a slower bike than yours on the day certainly proved that ;-)

  11. Hola Andy:

  13. I'm thinking you just need a sidecar rig, a friend you can trust, and a trip through lower BC.
