Down to the wire

Debbie and I had a great weekend at home. On Saturday we went to see the movie UP at Universal CityWalk. It's just a short drive from the apartment and all wheelchair accessible. The wheelchair seats in the theater were right in the middle row, which was nice as well. Other than that it was a pretty quiet day. On Sunday we did some shopping at Best Buy and Target, more good practice for car transfers and wheeling around. All the home aspects went well again this time, although I still have trouble turning at night. I managed most of the turns myself with some flailing around, but at one point I had to have Debbie rescue me as one of my legs jumped off the bed. Hopefully the turning will get easier as I get stronger and find the best way to do it.

Today it was back to the therapy grind, with stretching and the standing frame in the morning, the CPM machine and fall recovery in the afternoon. I got in my chair from the floor five times, each with less and less help from the therapist. The last one I did entirely on my own, so I'm pretty happy that now if I have trouble I can get in my chair. The interesting thing is that it's almost more work to get out of the chair (without just falling out) down to the ground, and that's another thing I'll have to work on.

After this past weekend, I'm ready to go home and confident that we'll manage. Just 11 more days!
